Animal cruelty is increasingly recognized as a critical indicator of broader violence within families and communities. Research shows strong links between animal abuse and domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and other forms of interpersonal violence. Animals are often used as tools of coercion and control, and witnessing or committing animal cruelty can have long-term impacts on children and families.

Our Guest Presenter, Phil Arkow, President and Secretary of the National LINK Coalition will discuss the connection between animal abuse and human violence and how professionals in law enforcement, social services, healthcare, veterinary medicine, and criminal justice can work together to recognize and respond to these warning signs. Participants will learn about emerging policies, collaborative programs, and practical strategies that help protect both animals and people.
