About the event
Connecticut’s black bears are increasingly at risk—not because of their behavior, but because of proposed legislation that would legalize hunting them. While black bear hunting is currently illegal in the state, efforts to overturn that status are gaining traction under the claim that hunting is necessary to reduce human-bear conflicts.
But here’s the truth: Scientific evidence and wildlife agencies agree—the real problem isn't the number of bears. It’s human behavior. Easy access to food sources like bird feeders, trash, pet food, and unprotected livestock is luring bears into neighborhoods and creating unnecessary conflict.
Join us for this critical discussion on the future of black bears in Connecticut. Learn why hunting is not the solution—and what proven, non-lethal strategies you can take to coexist safely and respectfully with these intelligent and essential members of our ecosystem.
