Connecticut’s black bears are increasingly at risk—not because of their behavior, but because of proposed legislation that would legalize hunting them. While black bear hunting is currently illegal in the state, efforts to overturn that status are gaining traction under the claim that hunting is necessary to reduce human-bear conflicts.
